| I
have massaged babies at the moment of birth, elderly grandmothers,
clients with HIV/AIDS and children with special needs. I have
seen the miracle that touch offers and felt its power in connecting
with another human being. I was trained at the Esalen Institute
in Big Sur, California, renowned for pioneering work in massage
and the healing arts. In addition to providing massage services
for individuals, I also teach infant massage to families and
lecture to teachers on how to integrate massage into educational
settings.
Esalen Massage
Esalen massage is a unique style of massage
built on long, flowing strokes, punctuated with specific muscle
work and passive, assisted stretching. Each session is tailored
to your individual needs. This combination of personal attentiveness
and varied techniques, leaves the receiver in a deep state
of rest and relaxation.
Prenatal Massage
Massage during pregnancy provides welcome
relief to an ever changing body and provides touch that is
vital to the mother’s physiological and psychological
well-being. As your baby grows, sessions change to meet your
needs.
Benefits include:
· boost energy levels
· prevent or reduce stretch marks
· relieve muscle and joint soreness, especially back
and hip aches
· reduce excess fluid retention by increasing circulation
· help maintain muscle tone
· increase awareness of tension in your body and how
to release it
· ease constipation, gas and heartburn
· promote flexibility
· nurture you and your baby
In addition, I can teach you self-care techniques
that have helped my clients breathe, exercise, stretch and
support themselves through their pregnancy, labor and post
partum.
CranioSacral Therapy (CST)
CranioSacral therapy is a gentle, non-invasive
method of evaluating and enhancing the function of the craniosacral
system. This method uses extremely light pressure applied
on various parts of the body with focus on the head and spine.
It enhances the body’s natural healing process and has
proved effective in treating a wide range of conditions for
infants, children, teens and adults.
CST can be used by itself or in combination
with other modalities such as massage. I have used it for
supporting women in labor, calming children with sensory defensiveness,
assisting babies to latch onto the breast and alleviating
physical restrictions throughout the body.
Pediatric CranioSacral Therapy
Dr. John E. Upledger, DO, OMM, developer
of CST, says, “I am thoroughly convinced that one of
the best things we can do for our children is to have them
begin life with smoothly functioning craniosacral systems,
a removal of physical restrictions so their body tissues aren’t
burdened by destructive or traumatic memories, and very clean
energy fields. This can all be accomplished in a very short
time within the first few days of life.”
CST is a recommended therapy for infants
and children because it uses extremely light touch. Reasons
to use CST with babies include: breast feeding concerns, reflux,
colic, birth injuries due to interventions, seizures, torticollis,
and other developmental concerns as they grow (i.e. falling
as they learn to walk).
No matter how old your child is, they can
benefit from this therapy.
